What is a record deal?

A recording contract, or record deal, is a legal agreement between a record label like Programmatic Flying Records, and an artist.

  • The ‘deal’ happens when the artist makes a record for the label to sell and promote.
  • Most labels have an 80/20 or 60/40 split with the artist; where the label gets the most.
  • Because we’re not-for-profit, we always make sure that our record deal is the best value for everyone involved.
  • Our record deal is standard for all of our artists, and it’s fair.
  • Our contract has been designed for readability, so we’ve tried to create an easy to understand record deal.
  • However, if there are any terms you need help understanding, we’ll get an impartial mentor to explain them to you.

what is programmatic flying’s process?

Not every young artist will get a record deal from us, even if they’ve worked with us in a workshop or won one of our competitions.

  • Unless we’ve explicitly told you that you have an unconditional offer for us to sign you, to keep the standard of our content, we’ve decided it’s in the community’s best interest to reserve our right to decide who to sign, usually after an audition.
  • Unconditional offers are rare, but if you’ve received one from us, it’s usually because we’ve seen you perform live before and know you have a large back catalogue of music compositions or songs.
  • You can get invited to an audition in many ways; press the button below to learn more.
