The audition

Our audition will be fairly relaxed. It will be online, or in person. You’ll likely be interviewed by our Head of Media and Head of Music, but depending on the circumstances, it may be by someone else. You don’t need to be at any specific level or grade, the audition is for us to talk to you. hear your music, and gauge you, or your groups, ambitions in the future. If you, or anyone in your group, is under 16, we’ll also need the consent of parents/guardians of all involved musicians who are under 16.

The Audition

  • We’re looking for a high standard of performance at the audition, and a high standard of songwriting.
  • Before your audition, you’ll need to send us a video of you performing two contrasting songs you’ve written. The video doesn’t have to be professionally recorded; but it needs to be of a high-enough quality for us to be able to clearly hear the music and see you.
  • If you’ve written any scores or lead sheets, please send us copies of this to support your audition.
  • During your audition, we’ll ask you to perform any 2 pieces; they can be pieces you’ve written or covers of other songs, but you must have – at a minimum – arranged everything you perform.

What are we listening and watching for?

  • Originality of musical ideas, showing your musical innovation skills.
  • Independence as an artist, as well as the capacity for teamwork. If you’re a solo performer, it may be an idea to submit a video of you performing in a group as well.
  • If you’re in a band, we’re looking for musical interaction with other members of the band.
